Day 4 - Pompeii and on to Rome

Today we said goodbye to Sorrento and got on the bus to head to Pompeii. What a fascinating place that was to visit. We had a 2 hour guided tour and barely scratched the surface of what you could learn.

There were about 20,000 people who lived in Pompeii at the time Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. The ruins were huge and we only saw a small portion of them.

About 2,000 people perrished and we got to see some of the plaster forms of the people who died. It was extremely interesting. After we left the ruins, we had a wonderful lunch at the President Ristorante. This tower was just around the corner and I thought it was quite cool.

Then we hit the road for Rome which was about 3 hours by bus. We're staying at the Westin Excelsior and its a great hotel so far.

Here's our room.

We had a couple hours of free time and then all headed into a lovely ristorante where we spent the next 3 hours eating 5 courses. During dinner, we were serenaded by 2 guys that were very, very good playing authentic Italian music.

We had a great time with our touring friends. Nancy especially had a good time joining in on the music.

Our friend Lynn also enjoyed herself. :-)

We laughed a lot and just a great time.

Tomorrow we go to St. Peter's Square in the morning and have a private tour of the Basilica in the evening. We get the afternoon to do what we like so we're going to see the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and a couple other popular sites.

Until then... Ciao!
