Day 3 - The Amalfi Coast

Today we drove alomg the Amalfi coast road through Positano and some other small towns to the town of Amalfi. We were in a small coach bus. There are 38 of us on this tour and we were driving along an incredibly narrow road with switchbacks and long drops off the cliff. Fortunately there were guard rails although they weren't all that high but they were there. Here's a shot looking out the front of the coach bus at one of the wider spots on which we drove.

Many times we passed another bus going the opposite direction and there couldn't have been more than a few inches between our buses. But the sites were spectacular. Here's a couple views along the route.

In Amalfi, we went to St. Andrew's Cathedral below. I hope to have gotten some good shots with my DSLR inside but I will have to wait till I get home to see.

We finished our time in Amalfi with a selfie. :-)

After we left Amalfi, we stopped in Ravello and had lunch at a wonderful Italian restaurant. After lunch, we headed back to Sorrento which was about a 2 hour drive on more narrow, switchback roads. The four of us felt like a little R&R time so we headed to the pool for a dip and cold drinks.

We wrapped it up around 5 and then got cleaned up and went walking in downtown Sorrento. Half of italy must be here on holiday because tomorrow is Assumption Day and almost all of Italy takes 2 weeks off and heads to the coast. Here are a couple shots of the street shopping we walked.

There were hundreds if not thousands of people in town. We finally ate dinner which takes a good couple of hours on a fast night at an open air restaurant. We sat next to a wonderful couple from Scotland who were not part of our tour. Tomorrow, we leave early around 7:45 am for Pompei and then on up to Rome for the next few days.

Until then... Ciao!
